The work being carried out by Fethiye Municipality and the Environmental Protection and Control Manager, Selver Hatice Kayak, has resulted in continued improvements in the recycling facilities in and around the area.
Recycling bins
A recycling bin is a container used to hold recyclables before they are taken to recycling centres. Separate containers are often provided for paper, tin or aluminium cans, and glass or plastic bottles. These bins are plentiful in the area and range from smaller bins in public areas to large bins for families to separate and dispose of their household waste responsibly.

Plastic bottles aren’t cool
In 2008, the volume of the bottled water market in Turkey reached 8.7 billion litres. This was forecast to rise to 11.1 billion litres by 2015 (suder.org.tr)
Can you imagine what that amount of empty bottles would look like?

Added to that is the impact plastic bottles have on the environment
Did you know?
One plastic bottle will take more than 450 years to completely break down (that’s 25 generations!)
More than 75% of plastic bottles are never recycled, they are simply thrown away
90% of the trash in the ocean is from plastic
Around the world, an estimated one million birds and 100,000 marine mammals and sea turtles die each year when they become trapped in plastic or eat it. It is one of biggest threats to all whales and dolphins occurring throughout the world’s oceans.
What can you do to help?
Reusing one glass bottle will prevent the purchase and consumption of more than 240 plastic bottles every year. There are many varieties of eco friendly bottles available that are suitable for all ages.

Dispose of plastic bottles in the recycling bins provided. There are even new bottle-shaped bins so you can identify them easily.

Don’t leave your rubbish behind
