Nestled in the picturesque Marmaris district of Muğla, İncekum Beach is rapidly becoming one of the most beloved destinations for local tourists, with its pristine golden sands and stunning turquoise waters attracting more visitors each year.

Situated in the Çamlı neighborhood, approximately 27 kilometers from the town center, the beach’s name “İncekum” translates to “fine sand,” a fitting tribute to the delicate texture of its sands.

A local favourite with increasing popularity

What makes İncekum Beach so special is its serene and untouched natural beauty. Though it is mostly frequented by local tourists arriving by road, the number of international visitors, especially those arriving by tour boats, has also begun to rise. This shift highlights its growing appeal, as vacationers seek out this hidden gem to experience the tranquility of its setting, far from the crowded tourist hotspots.

Visitors who come to İncekum Beach are greeted by a harmonious blend of sea, sand, and forest. Shaded by towering pine trees, beachgoers have the luxury of basking in nature’s shade while enjoying the sun and sea. The crystal-clear, turquoise waters invite swimmers for a refreshing dip, while the fine, golden sands offer a perfect spot for sunbathing.

Accessing the beach: a journey through nature

Reaching İncekum Beach is part of the adventure. After passing through the quaint Çamlı neighborhood, travelers embark on a scenic 5-kilometer drive along an asphalt road that winds through the surrounding forest. Upon arrival, visitors leave their vehicles in a designated parking area before paying a small entrance fee. From there, a unique experience awaits: a short ride through the forest on the trailer of a tractor, transporting visitors to the beach itself. This charming and rustic journey adds to the allure of the destination.

A “nature-friendly” beach experience

The businesses that operate on İncekum Beach pride themselves on offering a “nature-friendly” experience, catering to those who appreciate the area’s untouched beauty. Many of the visitors come from the nearby town of Akyaka, hopping aboard tour boats that set sail in the early afternoon, giving them the opportunity to spend hours swimming and lounging on the sands of İncekum.

As tourism continues to grow, İncekum has remained true to its roots, maintaining a peaceful and eco-conscious environment. Unlike many overcrowded tourist beaches, İncekum has a unique charm, with its natural landscape largely preserved.

Supporting the Local Economy

The influx of tourists has also provided a boost to the local economy, particularly for the residents of Çamlı neighborhood. The local headman notes that many families sell homemade products and crafts to beachgoers, contributing to their household income. This exchange allows visitors to take home a piece of the local culture while supporting the community.

The beach’s growing popularity is reflected in the praise from both local and foreign visitors. Sedat Ayyıldız, a Turkish tourist, expressed his admiration for İncekum, calling it a “magnificent place that must be seen.”

Affy Kermani, a British resident of Marmaris, described the beach as her personal sanctuary, where she finds peace every time she visits. “İncekum is especially beautiful in May,” she remarked, noting the tranquility of the beach during this time. For Kermani, İncekum is a “natural wonder” she returns to frequently.

A must-visit destination

Whether it’s the soft golden sands, the clear turquoise sea, or the tranquil atmosphere under the pine trees, İncekum Beach offers an idyllic escape for those seeking a peaceful day by the sea. As the number of visitors continues to rise, the beach has managed to maintain its natural charm, offering a unique, “nature-friendly” experience that sets it apart from the more commercialized beaches in the region.

For both locals and tourists alike, İncekum Beach is more than just a place to swim and sunbathe—it’s a place to reconnect with nature and experience the true beauty of Türkiye’s Aegean coastline.

Marmaris and İçmeler in southwest Türkiye are both popular holiday destinations.

Like most of the resorts along the Aegean coast, it’s difficult to envisage Marmaris as the quaint fishing village it used to be.

Today, the town is a top holiday destination with its exclusive setting in a sheltered bay rimmed with oleanders, liquidambar trees and pine forests.

About 6km around the bay from Marmaris is Içmeler (place of drinking water), a resort that is ideal for holidaymakers who want to enjoy the nightlife in Marmaris itself but want to have a quiet time during the day.

WHICH IS BEST? MARMARIS or IÇMELER!

It’s sometimes difficult to choose, especially if you’ve never visited either resort. Let Mick and Trudie help you.
