Wild boars wander the streets of Fethiye
A herd of approximately 15 wild boars wandered into the city center of Fethiye, capturing the attention of residents and tourists alike. The boars, driven by hunger, left their forest habitat in search of food.
The presence of such a large group of wild boars in the urban area was both surprising and concerning to locals. Many gathered to watch as the animals roamed through the streets, with one resident capturing the spectacle on their mobile phone and sharing the footage on social media, where it quickly gained widespread attention.
Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and avoid approaching the animals, as wild boars can be unpredictable, especially when they are in a group.
The incident highlights the growing challenge of human-wildlife interactions in regions where urban development encroaches on natural habitats. Residents are advised to secure garbage bins and avoid leaving food outside, which might attract wildlife into the city.

Historic shipwreck in Fethiye to boost marine tourism
The wreck of a historic offshore tugboat that served the U.S. Army during World War II is being converted into a tourist attraction, with hopes of boosting marine tourism in the western province of Muğla’s Fethiye district.
The “Marinel 1,” originally built in the Levingston Shipyard, was purchased in 2004 by Ahmet Karaçöl and Murat Köksal for $40,000. The tugboat, reconfigured for tourism at a cost of about $3 million, met an unfortunate fate on Oct 2, 2010.
Around 15 miles south from Dalaman, an electrical fire broke out onboard. Despite the prompt intervention of the TCG Anafartalar submarine and two naval boats on exercise nearby, the fire caused extensive damage.
The “Marinel 1” now rests at a depth of approximately 10-12 meters near Şövalye Island.
The Fethiye Chamber of Shipping has launched a project to locate and showcase the boat for marine tourism. Extensive research determined the wreck’s location. A professional diving team has since filmed the submerged vessel using underwater cameras.
Efforts are underway to further promote the wreck as a key attraction. Should the initiative succeed, Dalaman Bay may also see the relocation of another wreck to boost tourism.

Problems persist in Türkiye’s container cities 1.5 years after quakes
Earthquake survivors in Türkiye’s eastern Adıyaman province still lack access to clean water in their temporary living units, some 1.5 years after the Feb. 6 quakes. The medical chamber confirms previous reports of waterborne illness and warns residents against using tap water in the area.
Gazete Duvar reached out to survivors living in the temporary living unit, which houses 2,700 prefabricated homes in the central district. The survivors recently protested the long-standing and unresolved water issue by blocking traffic on Besni Road.
The survivors reported that the drinking water provided to them was unhygienic, containing worms, larvae, and frog larvae. They were also afraid to drink the tap water they used as drinking water due to its contamination.
An anonymous survivor recounted, “Yellow water comes from the taps. It invites disease. We’ve seen insects in our water; it’s not drinkable. It tastes and smells bad when we brush our teeth with it. So we have to carry water from another neighborhood.”
Despite applying to various places, including the Presidential Communications Center CİMER, the problem remained unsolved, according to the survivor who said, “We long for a glass of clean water,” and called for a solution. When asked about the allegations of waterborne diseases, Adıyaman Medical Chamber President Associate Professor Erdal Yavuz Vartan confirmed previous reports of illness.
Duvar’s attempts to reach the municipality for comments went unanswered.
