Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks.” – Plutarch
Thank you to Sarah Louise Dunn for sharing her lovely poem about Fethiye with us.
Sweet Fethiye
I sit with you, sweet Fethiye,
And gaze across your seas.
I wonder at your beauty,
Every wave, plant, hill and tree
Turquoise bays and ancient ruins,
Sandy beaches, cliffs and peaks.
Your beauty shines across the miles,
And to our souls you speak:
‘I will be calmly waiting here,
You’ll feel my pull in time.
But meanwhile, travel far and wide,
And explore this land of mine’
‘See my people, learn our ways,
And dine on our cuisine.
They’ll welcome you with open arms,
And ask where you have been’
‘You’ll say you came from Fethiye,
A place where land meets sea,
An Aegean jewel, a town, a home,
A magnificent place to be’
Time drifts by over foreign lands,
You’ll feel it’s time to go.
Fethiye begins to call to you,
And dearly you have missed her so.
You’ll spy familiar mountains,
In the distance, standing tall,
Feelings of peace wash over,
And you gaze at her in awe.
You’re back within her bosom
No place can quite match this.
Fethiye is glorious,
She is a place of bliss.
I sit with you, sweet Fethiye,
And gaze across your seas.
I wonder at your beauty,
Every wave, plant, hill and tree.

I love your poem, Myra and I classed Fethiye as our second home, first arrived in Fethiye in 1993 and loved it, 🇹🇷
