Boat Appears to Hover in Mid-Air in Muğla
Fethiye, MUĞLA – Residents and visitors in Fethiye witnessed an extraordinary sight when a boat on the horizon appeared to be floating in mid-air, caused by a rare atmospheric phenomenon known as Fata Morgana. The unusual scene, recorded on a mobile phone, rapidly went viral on social media.

The optical illusion occurred over the sea, creating a moment where the distant boat seemed suspended above the water. Viewers who saw the footage expressed disbelief, with many describing it as one of the most striking natural events they had ever seen.
What is Fata Morgana?
Fata Morgana is a complex type of mirage caused by temperature differences between air layers. This refraction effect distorts the appearance of distant objects, making them seem elevated, stretched, or suspended in the air.

The striking footage, recorded from the shore, quickly spread online as viewers reacted with both awe and concern.
Officials reported no damage or injuries related to the incident, noting that waterspouts can occur during unstable weather conditions but typically dissipate before reaching land.

MUSKİ Increases Rain Precautions and Warns Citizens
Muğla – Following a heavy rain warning issued by the General Directorate of Meteorology, the Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Water and Sewerage Administration (MUSKİ) has heightened its precautions and issued an urgent advisory to residents across the province.

According to the official statement, significant rainfall is expected across Muğla tonight and tomorrow. MUSKİ teams are already mobilised, clearing drains, stormwater channels, and sewer lines to prevent blockages and reduce the risk of flooding. Crews are also working to open stream mouths and ensure uninterrupted water flow throughout the province.
The administration emphasised that teams will be on duty 24/7 to address emergencies and minimise potential loss of life and property. MUSKİ urged citizens to remain cautious and follow essential safety instructions during the heavy rainfall period:
- Stay away from stream beds and water crossings.
- Avoid travelling unless absolutely necessary.
- Be aware of the risks of roof blow-offs, falling poles, and trees.
- Do not park vehicles in areas prone to water accumulation.

Waters Recede, Crash Remnants Revealed
Fethiye, MUĞLA – As water levels have receded at Geyik Dam, remnants from a helicopter crash that occurred 16 years ago have become visible once again. The incident took place on June 18, 2009, when a firefighting helicopter heading to intervene in a forest fire in Aydın’s Çine district crashed into the dam.

The lowered water levels this year have revealed several pieces of the wreckage, including propeller fragments, auger arms, and other metal components that had remained submerged. The newly exposed debris provides a stark reminder of the accident and its impact at the time.

Bodrum’s Çökertme Kebab Ranks 7th on World Food List
Bodrum, MUĞLA – Bodrum’s geographically indicated speciality, Çökertme kebab, has achieved international acclaim by ranking 7th on the “World’s 100 Best Foods” list, announced by a respected global gastronomy source.

Bodrum Chamber of Commerce President Mahmüt Serdar Kocadon celebrated the achievement, noting that the dish’s international recognition strengthens efforts to protect and promote its authenticity. He said, “We can share the story of Çökertme kebab and highlight its ranking as the 7th most delicious dish in the world. This is a source of real pride. We also recently secured geographical indication registration for Çökertme kebab, which is both a proud moment and solid proof of its value.”
Kocadon added that Bodrum aims to ensure the dish is prepared authentically in local restaurants and hotels. Establishments will be able to obtain a certification confirming they serve genuine Çökertme kebab. “The application process is simple and free. District Agriculture, our chamber, and a university representative will evaluate the dish. If it meets the criteria, we will approve it and provide a certificate. We encourage all restaurant and hotel owners to apply,” he said.
Chef Emrah Sarıca highlighted the dish’s importance to Bodrum tourism, calling it “a cultural and local treasure” that is especially popular with visitors. Originating from the Çökertme region of Muğla–Bodrum, the dish is among the top choices of tourists during the summer months.
Çökertme kebab is distinguished by its thinly sliced meat served over crispy potatoes with garlic yogurt and tomato sauce. Sarıca detailed the preparation techniques: “The meat must be cooked quickly and sliced thin. The potatoes should be soaked in icy water to remove starch before being fried in plenty of oil. On the plate, the potatoes come first, then the meat and the tomato sauce.”
Featured in nearly every hotel and restaurant across Bodrum, Çökertme kebab continues to enhance the district’s reputation in culinary tourism, demonstrating that Bodrum’s global appeal extends far beyond its sea, scenery, and nightlife.
