Fethiye Municipality teams successfully completed emergency works by operating day and night to restore both transport and water services following heavy rainfall that caused disruptions across the district.

After rocks fell onto the Kızılbel–Söğütlü road due to the rain, the route was closed for safety reasons. Municipal teams were immediately deployed, working with 10 trucks and two tracked excavators to clear the debris and make the road safe for traffic again.

Köyceğiz Lake Overflows, Atatürk Promenade Submerged

Köyceğiz, MUĞLA – Intermittent rainfall in the Köyceğiz district has caused the water level of Köyceğiz Lake to rise, leading to an overflow in the Delta area and the submerging of a section of the Atatürk Promenade.

As rainfall continued across the district, Kargıcak Stream, Namnam Stream and Yuvarlak Stream kept carrying large volumes of water into the lake, further increasing water levels. Following heavier rainfall late last evening, the lake expanded beyond its usual boundaries, inundating parts of the promenade and affecting some nearby businesses.

Local authorities have issued warnings to residents and business owners, urging them to remain cautious in case rainfall continues and water levels rise further in the coming days. Monitoring and precautionary measures are ongoing to reduce potential risks in the affected areas.

Starting and finishing at Ölüdeniz Beach, the two-day event will take runners through some of the region’s most spectacular landscapes, blending nature, history and adrenaline across highly technical and demanding routes. Competitors will race across six different stages, each designed to test endurance, speed and mountain-running skills.

The 2026 race programme includes the following categories:

  • 5K Ölüdeniz Run
  • 14K Kayaköy History Run
  • 15K Sky Running Dragon
  • 26K Downhill
  • 30K 1922
  • 56K Babadağ Ultra

A major highlight this year will be the debut of the “30K 1922” stage, announced on August 30 Victory Day. The new course has already attracted significant interest thanks to its historical symbolism and distinctive route profile.

Throughout the event, athletes will experience the panoramic views of Ölüdeniz, the historic atmosphere of Kayaköy, and the rugged beauty of the Lycian Way, widely regarded as one of the world’s finest long-distance hiking trails.

Babadağ Ultra General Coordinator Serkan Özdemir said the race would deliver an unforgettable combination of sport and scenery.

“Running towards the summit of Babadağ, synonymous with paragliding, accompanied by the gliders above and the blue of the Mediterranean below, will be among the most memorable moments of the race,” he said. “The overall champion male and female athletes will also be rewarded with a paragliding flight with professional pilots from Dragon Paragliding.”

Özdemir added that the highly technical courses, high level of difficulty and dramatic natural setting would offer competitors a true visual and athletic spectacle, while also allowing them to enjoy a holiday atmosphere in Ölüdeniz, where runners will even be able to cool off in the sea at the finish line.

Marmaris to Host Tour de France Amateur Race

Marmaris, MUĞLA – The picturesque tourism hub of Marmaris is set to become a global meeting point for amateur cyclists when it hosts L’Étape Marmaris by Tour de France on June 7, an official event in the prestigious L’Étape by Tour de France global series.

While the Tour de France is the world’s most famous professional cycling race, L’Étape by Tour de France is its official international series that allows amateur riders to experience the atmosphere, challenge and prestige of a real Tour stage. The Marmaris event is part of a worldwide series held in 35 cities across 20 countries.

The Marmaris race is being organized by Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO), the official organizer of the Tour de France, in partnership with Turkish event company 78 Event. Organisers said the race in Marmaris will combine the spirit of the iconic yellow jersey with challenging routes inspired by the Tour de France’s legendary mountain stages, all set against the district’s dramatic coastline, forests and hills.

Cyclists who place in their age categories at the Marmaris event will earn the right to compete in L’Étape du Tour, held in France, giving successful riders a pathway from Turkey to one of cycling’s most famous stages.

At the race’s launch event, local officials highlighted Marmaris’ climate, varied terrain and easy accessibility as key reasons why the region is ideal for cycling tourism. They also underlined that the event is not only a sporting competition, but a long-term project aimed at promoting sports tourism and inspiring the next generation of athletes.

With the addition of Marmaris, Turkey will become one of the few countries in the world to host two L’Étape races in a single year, alongside L’Étape Turkey by Tour de France in Istanbul, which is scheduled for September 20.

Turkey joined the L’Étape series in recent years, with Istanbul hosting the country’s first race in October 2024, when around 3,000 amateur cyclists from 50 countries took part across long, short and family-friendly routes spanning both the Asian and European sides of the city. The event returned to Istanbul again last October, attracting more than 2,000 cyclists on routes crossing the Bosphorus and passing through both urban and rural landscapes. Top finishers from these races qualified for international L’Étape events in France.

Registration is currently open for both L’Étape Marmaris by Tour de France and L’Étape Turkey by Tour de France, as Marmaris prepares to welcome cyclists from around the world to its first Tour de France-branded race.
