Sidewalk Encroachment Inspection on Fethiye’s ‘Flavour Street’
Fethiye, Muğla — Fethiye Municipality’s municipal police teams have carried out inspections on “Flavour Street” (Lezzet Sokağı), the popular canal-side dining area located next to Tuesday Market Square.
The inspections focused on sidewalk encroachment in an area that attracts considerable interest from both local residents and visitors, especially during the evening hours.
Officials checked whether businesses were complying with municipal regulations governing the use of sidewalks and public spaces. During the operation, businesses found to have placed tables and chairs beyond their permitted areas were issued warnings.
Municipal police teams reminded business owners that public walkways must remain accessible to pedestrians and that commercial use of the sidewalks must stay within the boundaries set by the municipality.
The inspections are part of ongoing efforts to maintain order and ensure safe and comfortable access for everyone using the busy canal-side area.

Support from Local Merchants for Neighbourhoods Affected by Fire in Seydikemer
Seydikemer, Muğla — Local merchants in Seydikemer have provided support to neighbourhoods affected by recent forest fires, under the coordination of the Seydikemer District Governorship.
Food aid prepared to help meet the needs of citizens impacted by the fires was distributed to residents in the affected areas through the governorship’s coordinated relief efforts.
The assistance was welcomed with appreciation by neighborhood residents, many of whom have been experiencing difficult days as a result of the fires.
Seydikemer merchants emphasized the importance of solidarity and community support during times of disaster, noting that cooperation between local businesses and public authorities plays a significant role in helping affected families during emergency situations.

Paragliding Accident in Fethiye: 2 Injured
Fethiye, Muğla — A tandem paragliding accident in Fethiye left a pilot and a British passenger injured during the landing phase of the flight.
According to reports, pilot T.K. and British national S.S. (38) had taken off from the 1,700-meter runway at Babadağ in the Ölüdeniz neighborhood when the accident occurred during landing.
Following an emergency call, teams from the Gendarmerie Search and Rescue (JAK) unit of the Muğla Provincial Gendarmerie Command and 112 Emergency Health services were dispatched to the scene.
The pilot and passenger were found on the roof of a facility at the crash site. JAK teams safely brought both individuals down on stretchers and handed them over to medical personnel.
After receiving initial treatment at the scene, the injured pilot and passenger were transported to hospital by ambulance.
Authorities reported that neither of the injured individuals was in life-threatening condition. An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the accident.

Two People Swept Away by Currents off Fethiye Rescued
Fethiye, Muğla — Two people, including a child, were rescued after being swept away by currents while at sea in an inflatable rubber boat off the coast of Fethiye.
According to reports, the pair requested assistance after drifting away from the shore. A Coast Guard boat was immediately dispatched to the area.
Following a rescue operation, both individuals were located in the water and safely brought aboard the Coast Guard vessel. Authorities confirmed that they were conscious and in good condition when rescued.
The two were subsequently transported to Ölüdeniz Pier, where they were brought ashore safely.

Vendor Ataçocuğu Calls for Abolition of Fees at Fethiye Second-Hand Market
Fethiye, Muğla — Rakiye Ataçocuğu, a vendor at the second-hand market held on the first Thursday of every month in Fethiye, has called for the abolition of stall fees and appealed to the Municipal Police Directorate for support.
Speaking about the difficulties faced by vendors, Ataçocuğu said the market is an important source of income for retirees and citizens in need, and questioned why fees are being charged.
“Instead of supporting our people, they are hindering them. Does our municipality really need the stall fees we pay? That is what I am asking,” she said.
Ataçocuğu argued that similar second-hand markets in other countries do not charge vendors for setting up stalls and suggested that the municipality should support citizens through other means rather than collecting fees.
“We are waiting for them to make a statement and provide support. We want them to support our people. We are here to sell maybe 15 items for 10 liras, and on top of that, we have to pay them a fee. It’s simply unfair,” she added.
Emphasizing that many of the stalls are operated by retirees and people facing financial hardship, Ataçocuğu said vendors often return home without making any sales. She also noted that transportation costs place an additional burden on them.
“We often leave without making a sale; there are no customers, no buyers. The round trip costs us around 500 liras, with 150 liras of that going toward transportation alone,” she said.
Ataçocuğu further stated that the removal of sales points located outside the main market area had worsened the situation for vendors.
“They cancelled the spots that opened onto the street. The public was already struggling, and now they’ve made the situation even worse,” she said.
Describing her appeal as a “humble request,” Ataçocuğu concluded by asking the Municipal Police Directorate and the municipality to provide greater support for citizens and small vendors who rely on the second-hand market for additional income.
Turkey to Add 55 More Fire Pools to Strengthen Forest Fire Response
Ankara, Turkey — Turkey’s General Directorate of Forestry (OGM) is continuing to strengthen the country’s firefighting infrastructure, with 55 additional fire pools scheduled to enter service by the end of 2026.
According to information obtained by Anadolu Agency (AA), the OGM is expanding its network of fire pools and ponds, particularly in forested areas located far from natural water sources. The facilities are designed to provide rapid water access for firefighting aircraft, helicopters and ground vehicles.
Authorities said that the pools and ponds built since 2004 have significantly improved initial response capabilities, helping crews contain fires before they spread.
At present, nearly 4,800 fire pools and ponds are in operation across Turkey, with the highest concentration in the fire-prone Aegean and Mediterranean regions. Once the 55 new facilities are completed, the nationwide total will exceed 4,850.
To ensure quick access to water, the basins are generally positioned 5 to 8 kilometers apart. Officials said this spacing allows firefighting aircraft to refill more efficiently during emergency operations.
Before each fire season, crews carry out comprehensive maintenance and cleaning of all pools and ponds. Inspections include perimeter fencing, safety measures and warning signs, while informational notices are distributed to local residents to raise awareness.
OGM Director General Bekir Karacabey described the fire pools as one of the most important infrastructure investments supporting Turkey’s firefighting capacity.
Emphasizing that time is the decisive factor in forest fires, Karacabey said rapid access to water can play a critical role in preventing small fires from developing into major disasters.
“To protect our ‘Green Homeland,’ we continue to invest with the same determination not only in the immediate response phase but also in pre-fire preparation,” Karacabey told AA.
The expansion of the fire pool network comes as Turkey continues to increase its preparedness for increasingly frequent and severe wildfire seasons.

Turkey’s Annual Inflation Eases to 31.75% in July, Below Expectations
Ankara, Turkey — Turkey’s annual consumer inflation slowed to 31.75% in July, according to official figures released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), coming in slightly below market expectations.
The annual inflation rate declined from 32.11% in June, while consumer prices increased 1.78% on a monthly basis, accelerating from the 0.99% rise recorded in June.
Both figures were marginally lower than forecasts from an Anadolu survey, which had predicted 31.8% annual inflation and a 1.82% monthly increase.
TurkStat said the consumer price index (CPI) had risen 19.86% compared with December 2025, while the 12-month moving average increase stood at 31.90%.
Among the expenditure groups with the largest weight in the inflation basket, the highest annual increases were recorded in:
- Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels: 40.32%
- Food and non-alcoholic beverages: 37.53%
- Transportation: 30.83%
Food and non-alcoholic beverages contributed 8.94 percentage points to the annual inflation rate, transportation contributed 5.22 points, and housing contributed 5.21 points.
On a monthly basis, transportation prices rose 2.59%, housing costs increased 2.25%, and food and non-alcoholic beverage prices climbed 1.61%.
According to the data, prices increased in 117 of the 174 expenditure subclasses covered by the index, declined in 50, and remained unchanged in seven.
The latest figures suggest that inflationary pressures in Turkey continued to ease gradually in July, although housing and food costs remained among the strongest drivers of consumer price increases.

Burak Süleyman joins Fethiyespor: Fethiyespor has reached an agreement with Burak Süleyman, who most recently played for Aliağa Football Club. The new signing joins the squad as preparations for the upcoming season continue.
Training camp begins: Fethiyespor has entered a training camp in Afyon, where the team has started the second phase of preparations under head coach Sait Karafırtınalar. The squad will continue intensive training ahead of the new season.
Opening fixture announced: The schedule for Week 1 of the Nesine 2. Lig has been announced. Fethiyespor will host 52 Orduspor FK at home on Sunday, September 6, at 19:00.
