Pre-Holiday Inspections Carried Out in Muğla

Muğla Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry teams conducted extensive inspections ahead of the Ramadan Feast, meticulously checking hygiene, freshness, and pricing in production facilities and sales points of sweets, chocolates, sugar and sugary products, patisseries, and bakery items.

Given the increased consumption of sweets and sugary products during the Ramadan Feast, officials paid special attention to expiration dates, storage conditions, and label information at production and sales points. These inspections aimed to ensure food safety and provide consumers with healthy and reliable products.

Muğla Provincial Director of Agriculture and Forestry, Seyfettin Baydar, commented on the inspections carried out across 13 districts, stating, “Our Ministry oversees the inspections of food products produced and sold in our country. These inspections are conducted according to monthly programs prepared on a provincial basis, as well as annual inspection programs set by our Ministry. Protecting consumer health and ensuring a reliable food supply at every stage of the food chain remains our Ministry’s responsibility.”

Fethiye Welcomed Holidaymakers with Alternative Tours

With the Ramadan holiday extended to nine days, tourism activity in Fethiye increased, and the open hotels reached near full capacity.

TÜRSAB Western Mediterranean Regional Representative Board President Özgen Uysal stated that all necessary preparations for alternative tours had been completed, offering visitors a variety of experiences. “We made all the arrangements for alternative tours, including horseback tours, diving tours, paragliding, jeep safaris, and boat tours,” he said.

However, Uysal also noted that many smaller hotels in the region had not yet opened. “The last-minute announcement of the nine-day holiday did not benefit our sector much. Hotels that remained closed could not adjust to this holiday schedule. Additionally, travelers were late in making reservations,” he explained.

Despite this, larger hotels in Fethiye that opened early operated at nearly full capacity. Uysal assured that agencies had finalized their plans, and from April 1 onwards, visitors were able to enjoy various alternative tours. “We were ready to welcome all holidaymakers and showcase the beauty of our region,” he added.

Concluding his remarks, Uysal wished a happy and peaceful Ramadan holiday to tourism professionals, visitors, and the people of Fethiye.

Heavy Traffic Hits Muğla Ahead of Holiday Break

After the Ramadan holiday was extended to nine days, traffic congestion increased in Muğla, one of Turkey’s key tourism destinations. Citizens traveling for the holiday formed long vehicle queues, especially on the Aydın-Muğla highway.

With the rise in traffic density, the Muğla Provincial Police Department Traffic Registration and Inspection Branch Directorate, along with public order teams, intensified their inspections. To prevent accidents, authorities warned drivers to obey speed limits, wear seat belts, and remain cautious on the roads.

During the inspections conducted at the entrances to Muğla and along the main routes, officials implemented various precautions to ensure a safe journey for drivers and passengers. The teams stated that inspections would continue uninterrupted throughout the holiday period.

🧿 NEWS FROM AROUND TURKEY

Foreigners, locals unite to keep Turkey’s coastal town Kaş clean

A small environmental initiative started by two foreign residents in Turkey’s coastal town of Kaş in Antalya has grown into a group of about 150 volunteers dedicated to cleaning up nature spots in the area.

Russian Andrey Bobylev and Frenchman Paul Moisson, who moved to Kaş during the COVID-19 pandemic, began picking up litter while hiking. Their efforts soon attracted other volunteers, leading to the formation of “Birlikte Temizleyelim-Kaş” (“Let’s Clean Together-Kaş”), which now includes many local and foreign residents.

The group, whose members range in age from 10 to 60, gathers at least once a week to collect litter while walking through Kaş’s historical sites, beaches, forests, scenic overlooks, harbours and roadsides.

In an interview on Tuesday, Bobylev told Anadolu Agency (AA) that the idea of environmental cleanup took shape after meeting Moisson.

“We started about four years ago, and the group grew through friends from Russia and social media,” Bobylev said. “We clean for nature, for Kaş, for people, with the motto, ‘It’s not my trash, but it is my town.’ Our group includes people from Turkey, Russia, the U.S. and the U.K., all working together to keep the environment clean.”

Since its inception, the group has collected approximately 4,000 large garbage bags of waste, mostly consisting of beverage bottles, plastic water bottles and snack packaging, Bobylev said.

Environmental volunteer Sinem Sunter emphasized the collaborative nature of their work.

“We first identify the most polluted areas and gather there to clean,” she said. “So many things that belong in trash bins end up in nature. People come to these beautiful spots to enjoy the view but leave their garbage behind. Nature doesn’t deserve this. If everyone simply carried their trash out, there wouldn’t be a problem. We’ve covered many areas of Kaş and collected thousands of bags of trash.”

Nikita Vatutin, another volunteer, highlighted the impact of their efforts.

“It feels meaningful to do this,” Vatutin said. “If we could also recycle the waste we collect, it would be even better. Every week, we gather about 30 bags of trash. Please, let’s keep our city and environment clean.”

Cappadocia added to prestigious wine route

Turkey’s Cappadocia region in the central city of Nevşehir, famed for its fairy chimney volcanic cones, has been included in the Iter Vitis Wine Route, one of the cultural routes of the Council of Europe.

This development follows the application carried out by the Ahiler Development Agency, aiming at accelerating regional and local development.

Launched in 1987, the European Council’s Cultural Routes program aims to highlight and enhance the shared heritage of European countries while raising awareness about common cultures and values. As of 2024, the program features 48 cultural routes.

These routes not only promote Europe’s cultural diversity but also offer visitors a deeper connection to regional heritage. Furthermore, projects undertaken within these cultural routes contribute to local economies and cultural awareness, boosting the tourism potential of the destinations.

The Iter Vitis Route stands out as a significant path reflecting Europe’s agricultural landscape tied to viticulture and the historical development of this culture.

Focused on vineyards, traditional production techniques and local winemaking heritage, the route aims to preserve and promote regional viticultural culture. It also strives to establish these areas as sustainable tourism destinations and educational paths.

Thus, the inclusion of the Cappadocia region in the renowned route will enhance the global recognition of the region’s rich winemaking heritage and provide greater visibility for local producers.

Additionally, it will offer significant collaboration opportunities to preserve the cultural aspects of viticulture, support sustainable tourism and launch new projects for rural development.
